Bible Study for Tuesday, February 25, 2025 - Giving to Caesar and Giving to God

Scripture: Mark 12:17 (NLT)
"Well, then,” Jesus said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God." His reply completely amazed them.

Lesson:
Jesus' answer did more than avoid the Pharisees’ trap; it shifted the conversation to a deeper spiritual truth. By affirming the obligation to pay taxes, He acknowledged the role of government and civic responsibility. However, His follow-up statement was even more significant—"Give to God what belongs to God." This phrase prompts us to consider what truly belongs to Him. The denarius bore Caesar’s image, but we are created in the image of God. Jesus was teaching that while we may have earthly obligations, our ultimate allegiance must be to God. Our lives, hearts, and devotion belong to Him, and that should shape everything we do. The crowd marveled at His wisdom, but the real challenge is for us—are we truly giving to God what is His?

Reflection Questions:
  • How do you balance civic duties with your commitment to God?
  • In what ways do you "give to God" in your daily life?
  • Are there areas where you hold back from fully surrendering to Him?
Prayer Focus:
Pray for a heart fully surrendered to God, placing Him above all earthly concerns.
