Dear Beloved Family in Christ,

As we conclude this week, I am moved to speak to you about the power of God’s grace. In our recent studies, we have seen how God’s grace is the source of our strength in times of weakness. It is by His grace that we are able to stand firm in the face of temptation, and it is by His grace that we are forgiven and restored when we fall short.

Grace is not something we earn; it is a gift from God, freely given to us through Jesus Christ. As we go into the weekend, I encourage you to rest in the assurance of God’s grace. Whatever challenges you may face, know that God’s grace is sufficient for you. His power is made perfect in your weakness, and His love for you is unchanging.

Let us end this week with hearts full of gratitude for the grace that sustains us, empowers us, and draws us closer to our Savior. May you walk in the fullness of His grace today and always.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse - Thursday, August 29, 2024 - Recognizing God’s Provision

Dear Faithful Friends,

As we approach the end of the week, I am reminded of the incredible ways in which God provides for us, especially in our times of need. In our recent message, we discussed how God always provides a way out of temptation, offering us the means to escape and stand firm in our faith. Today, I want to encourage you to be attentive to the ways in which God is working in your life, providing exactly what you need, often in ways you might not expect.

Sometimes, God’s provision comes in the form of a timely word, a kind gesture from a friend, or an unexpected solution to a problem. Other times, it might be the inner strength to resist temptation or the peace that surpasses understanding in a difficult situation. Whatever form it takes, God’s provision is always sufficient. I encourage you to take a moment today to reflect on how God has provided for you this week and to give thanks for His faithfulness.

Let us remain open to God’s guidance, trusting that He will continue to provide for all our needs according to His riches in glory.

With gratitude and hope,

Mid-Week Message - Slow Down and Look Up

"Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.  Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed."  Proverbs 3:13-18 (NIV)

As I was on my way back home one day, I was passed by a small red car.  The driver seemed to be in quite a hurry to get wherever he was going as he was travelling at a much higher rate of speed than was legal.  One thing he did not take into account was that this particular stretch of highway is a "no passing zone."  Once he got past me in the short passing lane he had to contend with another vehicle that was obeying the speed limit.  I watched as he followed this car very closely - too closely.  I backed off because I was concerned that there could be an accident if the front driver braked for some reason.

Fortunately, nothing bad happened.  However, as I watched, the Lord spoke to my spirit about wisdom.  Some of us are in the same position as the driver of the red car.  We find ourselves in a hurry to get somewhere.  Maybe it is to a higher paying job or a more impressive title.  Maybe it is to get married or have a family.  Possibly it is just looking for that feeling of being complete or peaceful and we find ourselves in various addictions or in with groups of people that lead us where we should not go.  We work and work to get to whatever it is that we're seeking.

The only place that we can find true happiness, true joy, true peace or true fulfillment and satisfaction is in Christ.  He is "the way, the truth and the life."  There is no person or substance on this earth than can provide for us the acceptance or completeness that we are searching for.  I am not in any way saying that it is wrong to strive for a better life.  It is certainly not a bad thing to wish for a mate or a family.  But, once you have them, you need to be aware that you may still find something lacking and there is only one place to turn to fill you to the brim and that is Jesus.

Proverbs contains many verses about wisdom.  I'm sure you are familiar with them.  Wisdom comes from seeking the mind of God Himself.  When we align ourselves with Him and begin to ask Him to reveal His desires for our lives, then we begin to open ourselves to His solutions for what we feel is missing.  Sometimes, He grants us exactly what we have been asking for and sometimes He doesn't.  The one thing we can always be sure of though is that He loves us with an everlasting love that is deeper and purer than we can even imagine.  When He says either yes or no, it is because He knows it is the best thing for us.

Are you chasing something today?  Is something lacking in your life?  Are you looking for something or someone that will complete you and fill you with the love and acceptance that you long for?  Jesus is waiting and He desires to be your everything.  Rather than tailgating at high speeds and falling into dangerous traps, slow down and look up.  Ask for wisdom for your life.  Ask the Lord to show you His plans and dreams for you.  You cannot out-dream Almighty God.  Blessings.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As we journey through this week, I want to encourage you to reflect on the importance of endurance in the Christian life. Endurance is not just about surviving; it is about thriving in our faith, even when faced with the most challenging circumstances. Yesterday, we spoke about how God provides us with a way out of every temptation. Today, I want to emphasize that enduring through trials builds our character and strengthens our relationship with God.

The path of endurance is not easy, but it is rewarding. Each trial we face is an opportunity to grow closer to God and to trust more deeply in His plan for our lives. As you go about your day, I urge you to keep your eyes on Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith. Let His example inspire you to persevere, knowing that every step you take in faith brings you closer to the fulfillment of God’s promises.

May God grant you the strength to endure and the grace to continue walking in His light.

The Faithfulness of God in Our Trials

In the journey of faith, every believer encounters moments of temptation and trial. These challenges are not unique to any one individual but are a common experience shared by all who walk with God. As we navigate the difficulties and allurements of life, it is easy to feel overwhelmed, questioning whether we have the strength to endure. However, the Word of God offers us a profound assurance in 1 Corinthians 10:13: "The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure." This verse reminds us that in every trial, God’s faithfulness remains steadfast. He does not leave us to face these battles alone; instead, He provides us with the strength and means to overcome. As we reflect on this passage, we will explore how God’s unwavering commitment to His people ensures that no temptation is beyond our ability to resist, and no trial is without a divine way out.

Temptation is an experience that transcends age, culture, and circumstance, touching the lives of all believers. It is important to recognize that the trials we face are not unique to us alone but are part of the shared human condition. The Apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 10:13, underscores this truth by reminding us that "The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience." This reality should bring a sense of comfort and solidarity, knowing that we are not isolated in our struggles. Throughout Scripture, we see examples of godly men and women who faced temptation—David with Bathsheba, Peter with his denial of Christ, and even Jesus Himself during His forty days in the wilderness. Each of these stories highlights that temptation is not a sign of personal failure but a common battleground in the life of faith. Understanding this helps to dismantle the shame often associated with temptation, allowing us to approach it not with fear or guilt but with the knowledge that we stand alongside a great cloud of witnesses who have endured the same trials.

In the face of temptation, the most reassuring truth we can cling to is the unwavering faithfulness of God. The challenges we encounter may feel overwhelming at times, but Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that God is faithful. This divine faithfulness is not a passive quality but an active, sustaining force in our lives. It means that God, in His infinite wisdom and love, is always present, always aware, and always providing for our needs, even in the midst of our most difficult trials.

God’s faithfulness is evident in His promise that He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. This does not mean that life will be free from hardship or that we will never feel the weight of our struggles. Rather, it assures us that God knows our limits better than we do. He sets boundaries on our temptations, ensuring that they do not exceed our capacity to endure with His help. This truth is a profound comfort, especially when we feel as though we are at the end of our strength. In these moments, we can trust that God has already measured the trial and provided the grace we need to withstand it.

Moreover, God’s faithfulness is unchanging. Lamentations 3:22-23 beautifully captures this, stating, "The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning." Every day, no matter the trials we face, we can awaken to the renewed mercies of God. His faithfulness is not conditioned on our strength or our success in overcoming temptation, but on His eternal and unchanging nature. In this, we find the assurance that, no matter what comes our way, we can rely on God to see us through.

In the midst of temptation, it can sometimes feel as though there is no escape, no relief from the pressure bearing down on us. Yet, the promise of 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us that God always provides a way out. This divine provision is not merely a last-minute escape route but a deliberate and purposeful path that God has laid out for us to follow.

When we are tempted, it is easy to become fixated on the temptation itself, losing sight of the options that God has placed before us. However, just as God is faithful to limit the intensity of our trials, He is equally faithful in ensuring that there is always a way to avoid sin and to stand firm in our faith. The story of Joseph in Genesis 39 is a powerful illustration of this truth. When confronted with the persistent advances of Potiphar’s wife, Joseph did not succumb to the temptation. Instead, he recognized the way out that God provided—fleeing the situation entirely. Joseph’s quick and decisive action reminds us that sometimes the way out requires courage and a willingness to remove ourselves from the source of temptation.

This provision of a way out may manifest in various forms. It might be the strength to resist a fleeting temptation, the wisdom to avoid compromising situations, or the discernment to recognize when to walk away. Often, it is also the support of fellow believers, accountability partners, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit that illuminate the path God has set before us. It is crucial, therefore, to remain spiritually vigilant and attuned to the leading of the Holy Spirit, for it is through His guidance that we can perceive and take hold of the escape routes that God provides.

Ultimately, God’s provision of a way out is a testament to His deep love and care for us. He does not leave us to face temptation alone or without hope. Instead, He actively works to provide us with the tools, the wisdom, and the means to overcome. By trusting in His provision and staying close to Him in times of trial, we can navigate even the most challenging situations with confidence, knowing that God is guiding our steps.

While God’s faithfulness ensures that we are never tempted beyond what we can bear and always provides a way out, there is another vital aspect to consider: endurance. Endurance is the strength to continue standing firm in the face of temptation, to resist the urge to give in, and to hold fast to our faith. It is through enduring temptation that our faith is not only preserved but also strengthened and refined.

James 1:12 tells us, “God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.” This verse highlights the reward that awaits those who persevere through trials. Endurance in the face of temptation is not just about survival; it is about spiritual growth and the deepening of our relationship with God. Each time we resist temptation and endure, we are being molded more into the image of Christ, who Himself endured all manner of temptations yet remained without sin.

Endurance, however, is not something we achieve by our own strength alone. It is the result of God’s grace at work in us, empowering us to stand firm. In moments of weakness, when the pressure to give in feels overwhelming, we must turn to God in prayer, asking for the strength to endure. The Apostle Paul, in 2 Corinthians 12:9, reminds us of God’s promise: “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” It is in our moments of greatest need that God’s power is most evident, carrying us through the storm and helping us to remain steadfast.

Furthermore, endurance is cultivated through a life of spiritual discipline. Regular prayer, study of Scripture, and fellowship with other believers equip us to face temptation with resilience. These practices build up our spiritual muscles, so to speak, enabling us to withstand the tests that come our way. Just as an athlete trains to increase their stamina, so too must we engage in spiritual disciplines to strengthen our ability to endure.

In the end, endurance in temptation is not just about resisting the momentary allure of sin; it is about developing a deep, unwavering faith in God. It is about trusting that His promises are true, that His strength is sufficient, and that His reward for those who remain faithful is far greater than any temporary pleasure that temptation might offer. As we endure, we grow closer to God, and our faith becomes a testimony of His sustaining grace.

As we reflect on the profound truths found in 1 Corinthians 10:13, we are reminded of the extraordinary faithfulness of God in the midst of our trials and temptations. Temptation, though a universal experience, does not define us, nor does it determine our destiny. It is merely a part of the journey—a challenge that every believer must face. Yet, in these moments of testing, we are not left to fend for ourselves. God, in His infinite wisdom and love, remains steadfastly by our side, ensuring that no temptation is more than we can bear.

God’s faithfulness guarantees that every trial comes with both a limit and a way out. He knows our strengths and weaknesses better than we do, and He is ever-present, providing the guidance and strength we need to overcome. Whether it is a clear path of escape, the courage to flee from sin, or the endurance to stand firm, God equips us with everything necessary to navigate the challenges before us.

As we conclude this message, let us take to heart the assurance that God is for us, not against us. He is our refuge and strength, our ever-present help in times of trouble. When we face temptations, let us not despair but instead look to God, trusting in His provision and relying on His strength. Let us commit ourselves to a life of spiritual vigilance, seeking His guidance in every moment of trial and holding fast to His promises.

May we, like the saints who have gone before us, endure with patience and faith, knowing that our trials are not in vain. For in the end, God has promised a crown of life to those who love Him and remain steadfast under trial. With this hope in our hearts, let us go forth with confidence, knowing that in every temptation, God’s faithfulness will see us through.
