Evening Prayer for Friday, February 28, 2025

Adonai, My Lord and Master,

You have been faithful to me throughout this day, and for that, I give You all honor and praise. As I reflect on the truth of Romans 12:1, I am reminded that my life is meant to be a living sacrifice to You—holy, pleasing, and fully surrendered.

Help me, Adonai, to give myself completely to Your will. Let my thoughts, words, and actions be an offering of worship to You. Where I have fallen short today, forgive me. Where I have served You well, may all the glory belong to You. As I lay down to sleep, fill my heart with the assurance that You are in control, and I am safe in Your hands.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

From Brother Jesse – Friday, February 28, 2025 - "A Living Sacrifice"

Dear Friends,

Paul tells us in Romans 12:1 that we are to offer ourselves as a “living and holy sacrifice” to God. This means that every part of our lives should be an act of worship—our time, our talents, and even our resources.

When you give to this ministry, you are part of that act of worship. You are helping to share the love of Christ with those who may have never heard the Gospel before. Your generosity ensures that the Word continues to go forth, changing lives and strengthening faith.

Daily Devotional for Friday, February 28, 2025 - "A Life Fully Surrendered"

Scripture: Romans 12:1 (NLT)
"Give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him."

True worship is not just about singing songs on Sunday—it is about surrendering our entire lives to God. A living sacrifice means that every decision, every action, and every moment is dedicated to Him. It means choosing His will over our own desires.

God does not just want a piece of your life—He wants all of it. When you give yourself fully to Him, you will experience His peace, purpose, and power in ways you never imagined.

Reflection: What part of your life have you not fully surrendered? Give it to God today.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Friday, February 28, 2025 - "What Are You Holding Back?"

Dear Beloved,

Jesus' words in Mark 12:17 challenge us to think about what we are truly offering to God. Paul echoes this in Romans 12:1, saying, “Give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”

God does not just ask for a portion of our lives—He asks for everything. Yet, many of us hold back. We give Him our Sunday mornings but keep our weekdays for ourselves. We offer our words in prayer but hesitate to surrender our plans. We give financial offerings but keep our hearts distant. Jesus reminds us that true worship is not about partial devotion—it is about giving to God what belongs to Him.

I urge you today to examine your heart. Is there something you are holding back from God? Is there an area of your life where you have not fully surrendered? Whatever it is, trust that when you give it to Him, He will bless it beyond measure. Do not hold back—give to God what is rightfully His.

Surrendered in Christ,
Brother Jesse

Bible Study for Friday, February 28, 2025 - Living as a Citizen of Heaven

Scripture: Philippians 3:20 (NLT)
"But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior."

Lesson:
While we have obligations to earthly governments, Jesus reminds us that our true citizenship is in heaven. As believers, we are called to live by the values of God’s kingdom, not just the rules of this world. This perspective changes how we interact with money, power, and even authority. It shifts our focus from temporary concerns to eternal truths. When we live as citizens of heaven, our choices, actions, and priorities reflect God’s righteousness rather than worldly ambition. We are reminded that while we must respect the systems in place, our true hope and allegiance rest in Christ, who reigns forever.

Reflection Questions:
  • What does it mean to be a citizen of heaven?
  • How does this change your perspective on daily life?
  • How can you live in a way that reflects your heavenly citizenship?
Prayer Focus:
Ask God to help you focus on His eternal kingdom rather than temporary concerns.

Share Your Thoughts:
Encourage others by sharing how you keep your focus on God’s kingdom.

Morning Prayer for Friday, February 28, 2025

Faithful Father, as I rise today, I am reminded of Your mercies that are new every morning. Your faithfulness is my refuge, and Your love is my strength. Lord, keep my heart free from bitterness, my mind clear from distractions, and my spirit attuned to Your voice. May my actions reflect Your love, and may my words bring encouragement to those around me. Help me to remain humble before You, always seeking to do Your will. I praise You, O Lord, now and forever. Amen.

Evening Prayer for Thursday, February 27, 2025

Yahweh-Shalom, The Lord My Peace,

As the night settles, I lift my soul to You, the One who gives perfect peace. You have called me to be a citizen of heaven, to live with my heart set on things above rather than the fleeting concerns of this world. Yet, at times, I struggle to keep my focus on Your eternal kingdom.

Yahweh-Shalom, quiet my restless heart. Remind me that my home is with You, and my true treasure is found in Your presence. May my life reflect the hope and peace of Your kingdom, and may I always trust in Your sovereign plan. Tonight, I rest in Your arms, knowing that You are my refuge and my salvation.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Daily Devotional for Thursday, February 27, 2025 - "Citizens of Heaven"

Scripture: Philippians 3:20 (NLT)
"But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior."

While we live in this world, we must never forget where we truly belong. Our ultimate citizenship is in heaven. The world may demand our time, attention, and even our allegiance, but our hearts must always be set on the things of God.

Living as a citizen of heaven means making choices that reflect God’s kingdom, not the values of the world. It means keeping our eyes on Christ and living in a way that honors Him.

Reflection: How are you living as a citizen of heaven today? Align your actions with your eternal calling.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Thursday, February 27, 2025 - "Citizens of a Greater Kingdom"

Dear Friends in Christ,

When Jesus spoke about giving to Caesar and giving to God, He was not only addressing a political question—He was pointing us toward a higher truth. As Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:20, “We are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives.” That means that while we live in this world, we ultimately belong to another kingdom.

It can be easy to get caught up in the affairs of this life—politics, finances, social pressures—but we must never lose sight of where our true citizenship lies. The values of this world are temporary, but the kingdom of God is eternal. We are called to live with our hearts fixed on heavenly things, not just earthly concerns.

So let me ask you—are you living as a citizen of heaven? Are you investing your time, energy, and devotion into things that will last? Or have you become too entangled in the temporary things of this world? Let us fix our eyes on Christ, living each day with the mindset of those who belong to an everlasting kingdom.

In His kingdom,
Brother Jesse

Bible Study for Thursday, February 27, 2025 - A Divided Allegiance

Scripture: Matthew 6:24 (NLT)
"No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money."

Lesson:
Jesus’ teaching about serving two masters directly connects to the lesson in Mark 12. The Pharisees wanted to manipulate Jesus into taking a political stance, but He pointed them to a spiritual truth—our ultimate allegiance cannot be divided. Many people struggle with trying to serve both God and the world, but Jesus makes it clear that this is impossible. If we are consumed by wealth, power, or status, our devotion to God will suffer. Likewise, if we wholeheartedly follow God, the world’s demands will hold less power over us. Jesus calls us to examine our priorities and make a firm decision—will we live for temporary earthly gains, or will we fully devote ourselves to the eternal kingdom of God?

Reflection Questions:
  • What competes for your devotion to God?
  • How can you ensure that your priorities honor Him?
  • What changes can you make to serve God more fully?
Prayer Focus:
Ask for strength to put God above all other priorities in your life.

Share Your Thoughts:
Share a verse that reminds you to stay devoted to God.

Morning Prayer for Thursday, February 27, 2025

Lord of all creation, this morning I acknowledge that every good and perfect gift comes from You. I thank You for the air I breathe, the love You pour out, and the strength You provide. As I go about this day, help me to remain faithful in prayer, diligent in service, and steadfast in my love for You. Let my heart overflow with thanksgiving, and may I walk in the power of Your Spirit. I dedicate this day to You, Lord, for Your glory alone. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Evening Prayer for Wednesday, February 26, 2025

El Shaddai, God Almighty,

Tonight, I rest in the assurance that You are my strength and my provider. In a world that constantly demands my attention and loyalty, I choose to fix my heart on You. Your Word reminds me that no one can serve two masters. My allegiance is to You alone, for You alone are worthy.

Forgive me, El Shaddai, for the moments when I have been distracted by the cares of this world. Set my heart firmly on Your truth, and give me the courage to stand for You in all that I do. As I sleep, may Your peace cover me, and may Your Spirit renew me for the day ahead.

In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.

From Brother Jesse – Wednesday, February 26, 2025 - "Whose Image Do You Reflect?"

Dear Friends,

Jesus asked a simple question in Mark 12:16: “Whose picture and title are stamped on it?” When the people answered “Caesar’s,” He told them to give to Caesar what belonged to him. But that raises a deeper question: Whose image do we bear?

We are made in the image of God, which means that our lives, our time, and even our resources belong to Him. This ministry exists to help others realize that truth—to bring people to the understanding that they were created for a purpose, loved by God, and redeemed through Christ.

Would you be part of this work? Your donation, as small as the price of a premium coffee, can help someone hear the Gospel today. Click the "Donate" button and join me in spreading His truth.

Daily Devotional for Wednesday, February 26, 2025 - "You Cannot Serve Two Masters"

Scripture: Matthew 6:24 (NLT)
"No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other."

The Pharisees wanted Jesus to take sides between Rome and Israel, but He pointed to a greater truth: Divided loyalty leads to a divided heart. We cannot serve both God and the world. If our hearts are set on material gain, status, or approval from others, then our devotion to God will suffer.

Following Christ requires full commitment. It is not about balancing faith with worldly desires; it is about choosing Him first in all things.

Reflection: Is there something competing for your devotion to God? Surrender it today and make Him your priority.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Wednesday, February 26, 2025 - "A Divided Heart Cannot Stand"

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We live in a world that constantly pulls us in different directions. Jesus made a profound statement when He said, “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” (Mark 12:17 NLT). His words remind us that while we have responsibilities in this world, our highest allegiance must always be to God.

Too many of us try to serve two masters. We divide our hearts between God and the world, between faith and personal ambition, between righteousness and compromise. But Jesus warned in Matthew 6:24 that “No one can serve two masters.” A heart divided will always be restless.

If you feel torn between worldly obligations and your devotion to God, I urge you to make a choice today. Surrender to Him completely. Let your decisions, your priorities, and your desires reflect a heart that belongs fully to the Lord. The world may demand much from you, but God deserves everything. Will you give Him what is rightfully His?

With all sincerity,
Brother Jesse

Mid-Week Message - My Dreams Versus God's Plans

"This is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT)

My childhood was filled with stories of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and other wonderful tales that all had the same ending, "and they lived happily ever after."  Each of these characters had wishes that seemed unattainable, yet, in the end, they came true.  Either a fairy godmother worked her magic or a kiss from Prince Charming broke an evil spell.  However it came about, the same was true.  That girl's dreams became reality.  Of course, anything is possible in make believe.  Real life isn't always tied up with ribbons and bows though.

Somewhere along the way in my younger days, I came to believe that the dreams I had for my life came from God.  I thought,"Surely He wouldn't allow me to have a dream that He didn't intend to fulfill."  Needless to say, I had a lot to learn about my relationship with Him and about His purpose for me on this earth.  Even now, at an age that I certainly should know better, I still find myself realizing that dreams that I have held onto for decades just probably aren't going to come to fruition.  I shed a few tears over some of them then reluctantly relinquish them into the hands of the One who has much greater things in store.

As I examine some of the things I dreamed for, I am able to see how selfish they really were.  I wanted them simply because I wanted them.  It isn't that any of those things were bad, only that the only purpose they would serve would be my own.  I didn't figure eternity into them.  I never thought about how I could serve the Lord better through them.  I never even really asked Him about them.  They were lofty hopes that were mine.  All mine.  I just assumed that once they came about, my life would be complete.

What happens when we spend so much time dreaming is that we run the risk of not seeing what God is actually doing in our lives.  When I stop to think about it, what gives me unspeakable joy is simply sharing the love of Christ with those around me.  When I keep my focus on Him and my mind in the present, then my eyes are opened to all the opportunities He gives me each day to reach out to friends, family, acquaintances and strangers with the love, encouragement and compassion that can only come through the power of the Holy Spirit.  None of the dreams that came from my own mind can even begin to compare with how content I feel when I simply do the work He sets in front of me to do.

This world is temporary.  I could spend my limited time fulfilling my own desires, or I can go to Him each day and ask Him what He would like for me to do.  If He chooses to use one of my dreams for His purposes, then I will praise Him and ask Him to help me remember that it is for HIM and not for me.  And if He doesn't choose to, then I can know that it isn't because of any lack of love He has for me, but quite the opposite.  He loves me so much that He only wants the best for me while I walk this planet.  And, one day, I will be in Heaven which will be far beyond anything any human mind could ever dream of.  God bless.

Bible Study for Wednesday, February 26, 2025 - Bearing God’s Image

Scripture: Genesis 1:27 (NLT)
"So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

Lesson:
If the denarius belonged to Caesar because it bore his image, then what does it mean for us, as those who bear God’s image? From the beginning, God created us to reflect His character, His righteousness, and His love. This means that our identity is rooted in Him, not in worldly influences. To bear God’s image is to live in a way that honors Him—not just in words but in action. It also means that we belong to Him; our lives are not our own but are meant to glorify our Creator. Jesus’ words in Mark 12:17 point us to this truth: we must live as those who carry the image of God, fully devoted to Him in every area of life.

Reflection Questions:
  • What does it mean to bear God’s image?
  • How does this truth shape your identity and purpose?
  • How can you reflect God’s character in your actions today?
Prayer Focus:
Ask God to help you live in a way that reflects His image to the world.

Share Your Thoughts:
Write down three ways you can honor God with your life today.

Morning Prayer for Wednesday, February 26, 2025

Father in Heaven, thank You for the blessing of this new day. Today, I ask for wisdom, patience, and a heart that seeks after You. May my words be kind, my actions be filled with love, and my thoughts be pure before You. Help me to trust in Your plans, even when I do not understand them. Let my faith be unwavering and my joy be found in You alone. Guide my every step, O Lord, and use me for Your purpose. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Evening Prayer for Tuesday, February 25, 2025

Yahweh-Rohi, The Lord My Shepherd,

Thank You for leading me through this day with Your wisdom and grace. Your voice has guided me, and Your mercy has sustained me. As I reflect on Jesus’ words, “Give to God what belongs to God,” I am reminded that my life is Yours.

Shepherd my heart, Yahweh-Rohi, and keep me from wandering away from Your truth. Let my thoughts be pleasing to You, my actions bring You glory, and my love for You deepen each day. I surrender all that I am into Your hands, trusting in Your perfect care.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

From Brother Jesse – Tuesday, February 25, 2025 - "A Small Gift, A Big Impact"

Dear Friends,

We often think that generosity must be extravagant to make a difference, but Jesus showed us that even the smallest gifts, when given in faith, can be multiplied in the Kingdom of God. The widow who gave her two small coins (Mark 12:41-44) was praised by Jesus, not because of the amount she gave, but because of her heart.

Every dollar given to this ministry helps spread the Gospel to those who are seeking truth. It’s not about the size of the gift—it’s about the impact it makes when we come together in faith.

Daily Devotional for Tuesday, February 25, 2025 - "Giving to God What is His"

Scripture: Mark 12:17 (NLT)
"Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God."

Jesus’ words were not just about taxes—they were about devotion. We have responsibilities in this world, but our greatest duty is to God. What does it mean to give to God what belongs to Him? It means surrendering our lives to His will. It means honoring Him with our time, talents, and worship.

God does not ask for part of us—He asks for all of us. When we hold back, we are robbing Him of what is rightfully His. Today, choose to give Him your full heart.

Reflection: What are you holding back from God? Take a step today to surrender that area to Him.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Tuesday, February 25, 2025 - "Whose Image Do You Bear?"

Dear Friends,

When Jesus held up a Roman denarius and asked, “Whose picture and title are stamped on it?” (Mark 12:16 NLT), He was revealing a truth far greater than taxation. The coin bore the image of Caesar, signifying that it belonged to the Roman government. But this leads to an even deeper question—Whose image do we bear?

Genesis 1:27 tells us that we are created in the image of God. That means our very lives belong to Him. Yet, how often do we allow the world to define us instead? Society tells us that our worth is found in wealth, power, or status, but Jesus reminds us that our identity is found in God alone.

Take a moment today to reflect on whose image you are reflecting. Are you living in a way that honors the One who created you? Or are you allowing the world to shape your identity? When we give to God what belongs to Him, we are not just offering money or service—we are offering our very lives. Let us bear His image with boldness, reflecting His love, truth, and holiness to the world.

In His service,
Brother Jesse

Bible Study for Tuesday, February 25, 2025 - Giving to Caesar and Giving to God

Scripture: Mark 12:17 (NLT)
"Well, then,” Jesus said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God." His reply completely amazed them.

Lesson:
Jesus' answer did more than avoid the Pharisees’ trap; it shifted the conversation to a deeper spiritual truth. By affirming the obligation to pay taxes, He acknowledged the role of government and civic responsibility. However, His follow-up statement was even more significant—"Give to God what belongs to God." This phrase prompts us to consider what truly belongs to Him. The denarius bore Caesar’s image, but we are created in the image of God. Jesus was teaching that while we may have earthly obligations, our ultimate allegiance must be to God. Our lives, hearts, and devotion belong to Him, and that should shape everything we do. The crowd marveled at His wisdom, but the real challenge is for us—are we truly giving to God what is His?

Reflection Questions:
  • How do you balance civic duties with your commitment to God?
  • In what ways do you "give to God" in your daily life?
  • Are there areas where you hold back from fully surrendering to Him?
Prayer Focus:
Pray for a heart fully surrendered to God, placing Him above all earthly concerns.

Discuss how you live out your faith in daily life.

Evening Prayer for Monday, February 24, 2025

El Elyon, The Most High God,

Tonight, I come before You, reflecting on the truth that I am created in Your image. Just as the denarius bore Caesar’s image, I bear the imprint of my Creator. My life belongs to You, and I desire to honor You in all that I do.

Forgive me, El Elyon, for the times I have given my heart to lesser things. Help me to fix my eyes on You, to seek Your kingdom above all else, and to walk as a faithful servant of Your truth. As I lay down to rest, cover me with Your presence and restore my soul for the work of tomorrow.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

From Brother Jesse – Monday, February 24, 2025 - "What Are You Holding Back?"

Dear Friends,

Jesus’ words remind us that while we meet the obligations of this world, we must never neglect our duty to God. Many of us hold back, reserving certain areas of our lives instead of fully surrendering to Him. But when we release what we cling to, God does something incredible—He multiplies it for His glory.

This ministry is a testament to what God can do when we step out in faith. Each prayer, Bible study, and message is reaching hearts because of your generosity. I ask you today—will you partner with me in sharing the Good News?

Daily Devotional for Monday, February 24, 2025 - "Whose Image is on Your Life?"

Scripture: Mark 12:16 (NLT)
"When they handed it to him, he asked, 'Whose picture and title are stamped on it?' 'Caesar’s,' they replied."

The denarius bore the image of Caesar, proving it belonged to him. But what about us? If a coin’s ownership is determined by its image, then we must ask: Whose image do we bear? Genesis 1:27 tells us that we are made in the image of God. That means we belong to Him.

Are you living in a way that reflects His image? Do your actions, thoughts, and words align with His character? When we recognize that we are His, it changes how we live.

Reflection: Look at your life today—do you reflect God’s image in your relationships, decisions, and priorities? If not, ask Him to reshape you into His likeness.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Monday, February 24, 2025 - "God Sees Beyond the Surface"

Dear Beloved in Christ,

I often find it remarkable how people present themselves in different ways—sometimes with sincerity, and other times with hidden motives. In Mark 12:13-15, the Pharisees and Herodians approached Jesus with words of admiration, calling Him a truthful and impartial teacher. But their flattery was empty. They did not seek wisdom; they sought to entrap Him. Yet Jesus, in His divine wisdom, saw through their deception and exposed their hypocrisy.

How often do we find ourselves caught up in appearances? We live in a world that values outward success, polished words, and social status, but God sees beyond all of that. He looks at the heart. Our faith is not meant to be a performance—it is meant to be an intimate, honest relationship with our Creator. When we come before the Lord, we must do so with genuine devotion, not just empty words.

Today, I encourage you to examine your heart. Are you truly seeking God, or just going through the motions? Let us ask the Lord to refine us, to strip away anything false, and to make us wholly devoted to Him. He sees you, He knows you, and He desires a heart that is fully surrendered.

In His grace,
Brother Jesse

Bible Study for Monday, February 24, 2025 - Recognizing the Image of Authority

Scripture: Mark 12:16 (NLT)
"Show me a Roman coin, and I’ll tell you. When they handed it to him, he asked, 'Whose picture and title are stamped on it?' 'Caesar’s,' they replied."

Lesson:
Jesus' response to the Pharisees’ trap was both practical and profound. By asking them to produce a Roman denarius, He forced them to acknowledge the very system they were questioning. The coin itself bore the image and title of Caesar, symbolizing his earthly authority over the land. By carrying and using this currency, they were already participating in the Roman government’s economic structure, making their question about taxation somewhat hypocritical. More importantly, Jesus' question led to a deeper truth. If the coin belonged to Caesar because it bore his image, then what belongs to God? This moment challenges us to reflect on what marks our lives—are we more influenced by worldly authorities, or do we live under the authority of God?

Reflection Questions:
  • What symbols of authority influence your life today?
  • How does recognizing earthly authority help us understand spiritual authority?
  • What does it mean to belong to God in a world of competing influences?
Prayer Focus:
Ask God for wisdom in balancing civic responsibility with spiritual devotion.

Share Your Thoughts:
Write down one way you can honor God in your daily responsibilities.

Gracious Lord, thank You for waking me up this morning and giving me breath in my lungs. As I step into this new day, I surrender my plans, my thoughts, and my actions to You. Guide my steps in righteousness, and help me to seek first Your kingdom in all that I do. Keep my mind fixed on what is true, honorable, and pleasing to You. Evening Prayer for Sunday, February 23, 2025

Yahweh, My Sovereign King,

As I close this day, I lift my heart in gratitude for Your steadfast love and mercy. You have guided my steps, provided for my needs, and reminded me that I belong to You. Just as Jesus taught that we should give to Caesar what is his, I am reminded that my life, my heart, and my devotion belong fully to You.

Search my heart, Yahweh, and reveal anything that keeps me from walking in complete obedience to You. Strengthen my faith so that I may always render to You what is rightfully Yours—my worship, my trust, and my love. As I lay my burdens before You tonight, grant me rest in the peace of Your presence.

In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Daily Devotional for Sunday, February 23, 2025 - "The Heart Behind the Question"

Scripture: Mark 12:13-15 (NLT)
"Later the leaders sent some Pharisees and supporters of Herod to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested."

The Pharisees and Herodians approached Jesus, pretending to respect Him, but their hearts were set on trapping Him. Their flattery was deceptive, their motives impure. But Jesus saw through them. He knew that outward words mean nothing if the heart is far from God.

Today, let this be a reminder to examine our own hearts. Are we truly seeking God, or just going through the motions? Is our faith genuine, or are we more concerned with appearances? God desires a heart that is fully devoted to Him, not just words that sound righteous.

Reflection: Take a moment today to pray honestly before God. Ask Him to reveal any hidden motives in your heart and to help you live with sincere devotion.

Render to God What Belongs to God

Many people are familiar with the words of Jesus in Mark 12:17: “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” This verse is often quoted in discussions about government, taxes, and civic responsibilities, as though Jesus were simply affirming the duty to pay taxes. However, when we look more closely at this passage, we discover that Jesus was teaching a much deeper truth—one that extends beyond financial obligations and speaks directly to the heart of our devotion to God. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day attempted to trap Him with a politically charged question, hoping to force Him into making a statement that would either anger the Roman authorities or turn the Jewish people against Him. Yet, as always, Jesus responded with divine wisdom, shifting the conversation from politics to something far more profound: the question of ownership and allegiance. The real challenge presented in this passage is not just about paying taxes but about recognizing what belongs to God. If the coin bore the image of Caesar and rightfully belonged to him, then what bears the image of God? The answer is clear—we do. Created in His image, we belong to Him, and our ultimate allegiance is not to any earthly authority but to the Lord Himself. As we explore this passage, we will move beyond the surface-level interpretation and seek to understand what it truly means to give to God what is rightfully His.

As Jesus continued His ministry, the religious leaders grew increasingly desperate to discredit Him. In this passage, we see an unusual alliance form between the Pharisees and the Herodians—two groups that were typically at odds with one another. The Pharisees, who were staunchly opposed to Roman rule, resented paying taxes to Caesar, while the Herodians, who were loyal to Herod and aligned with Roman authority, supported the taxation. Yet, despite their differences, they united with a common purpose: to trap Jesus in His words. Their approach was deceptive, as they began with flattery, acknowledging Jesus as a man of integrity who spoke the truth without partiality. However, their praise was insincere, designed only to set Him up for their trick question: “Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay them, or shouldn’t we?”

This question was a calculated attempt to force Jesus into a no-win situation. If He affirmed paying taxes to Caesar, He would risk losing favor with the Jewish people, many of whom viewed Roman taxation as oppressive and unjust. On the other hand, if He spoke against paying taxes, He could be accused of sedition and rebellion against the Roman government, which would give the authorities grounds to arrest Him. The leaders believed they had placed Jesus in an impossible position, where any answer He gave would work against Him. However, as we will see in the next section, Jesus was not so easily trapped. Rather than falling into their snare, He responded with a wisdom that not only silenced His accusers but also revealed a deeper truth about our obligations to both earthly authorities and, more importantly, to God.

Seeing through their deceit, Jesus did not immediately answer their question but instead asked for a Roman coin—a denarius. This was significant because it forced His challengers to acknowledge that they were already participating in the Roman economic system by using the currency. As they handed Him the coin, Jesus posed a simple yet profound question: “Whose image and title are stamped on it?” They responded, “Caesar’s.”

With this response, Jesus delivered His famous statement: “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” On the surface, He addressed their question about taxes—affirming that Caesar had a legitimate claim to what bore his image. However, Jesus’ response went beyond politics and taxation. He masterfully redirected the discussion from a debate about civic duty to a much deeper spiritual truth: If the coin belonged to Caesar because it bore his image, then what belongs to God?

This was the crucial implication of Jesus’ words—one that His opponents failed to anticipate. While acknowledging the obligations of living under a government, Jesus subtly emphasized a higher responsibility: giving to God what is rightfully His. In doing so, He exposed the hypocrisy of the religious leaders, who were more concerned about earthly power and influence than about true devotion to God. The brilliance of Jesus’ answer left them speechless. Rather than being trapped by their question, He turned the moment into an opportunity to reveal a foundational truth about allegiance, identity, and the ultimate authority of God over all things.

Jesus’ response not only answered their question but also carried a far greater spiritual implication—one that often goes unnoticed. If the coin bore Caesar’s image and thus belonged to him, then what bears God’s image? The answer is clear: we do.

From the very beginning, Scripture teaches that humanity was created in the image of God. Genesis 1:26-27 declares, “Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.’” Just as the denarius was marked by Caesar’s likeness, every human being is stamped with the image of the Creator. This means that our very lives, our souls, our thoughts, our desires—all of who we are—rightfully belong to God.

By stating, “Give to God what belongs to God,” Jesus was not simply making a secondary point; He was making the primary point. While paying taxes is a duty of earthly citizenship, offering ourselves fully to God is the duty of divine citizenship. Too often, people focus on their civic and social responsibilities while neglecting their spiritual obligations. But Jesus reminds us that our first and highest duty is to the One whose image we bear.

This also confronts us with an important question: Are we truly giving to God what belongs to Him? Are we living in a way that reflects His image? Do our priorities align with His will, or have we given our hearts over to worldly concerns? The Pharisees and Herodians were obsessed with politics and power, but Jesus redirected the conversation toward what really matters—our allegiance to God. His words challenge us to move beyond religious formalities and truly surrender our lives to the One who created us.

Jesus' words challenge us to evaluate not just our financial obligations but the entirety of our devotion. If we are made in God's image, then our lives belong to Him. The question we must ask ourselves is not merely whether we are fulfilling our civic duties, but whether we are truly giving to God what is His. We can apply this simple principle in three areas of our daily lives.

Since we are created in the image of God, our identity should be found in Him rather than in worldly things. Too often, we define ourselves by our careers, achievements, possessions, or social status. However, these things do not ultimately belong to us. We are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10), and our purpose is to reflect His glory. To render to God what is His means that we must submit our entire being—our thoughts, actions, and desires—to His will.

Just as the denarius bore Caesar’s image, signifying it belonged to him, everything we have—our time, talents, and resources—bears the mark of God's provision. We are stewards, not owners, of the gifts He has given us. Are we using our skills and resources for His kingdom? Are we honoring Him with our finances, not only by giving to the church but by using our money in ways that glorify Him? Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” Every aspect of our lives should be an offering to God.

Jesus' response in Mark 12:17 reminds us that while we live in this world and have earthly responsibilities, our highest priority must always be God. This means that His commandments and His kingdom should shape our decisions, our relationships, and our daily lives. We must ask ourselves: Are we giving our best to God, or are we reserving our time and energy for lesser things? Are we more concerned with politics, wealth, or personal success than we are with growing in faith and serving others? Jesus calls us to realign our priorities, ensuring that we do not merely offer God our leftovers but the very best of ourselves.

When we understand Jesus' statement in its full context, we see that it is about far more than taxation—it is about total surrender. Giving to Caesar may require a coin, but giving to God requires a heart fully devoted to Him. The challenge before us is clear: Will we give God what is rightfully His?

Jesus’ response to the Pharisees and Herodians was not just a clever way to escape their trap—it was a profound call to examine our allegiance. His words force us to ask: Are we giving God what rightfully belongs to Him? The world will always have its demands—governments, responsibilities, and obligations that require our attention. However, our ultimate devotion must belong to God alone. The coin may have borne Caesar’s image, but we bear the image of the Almighty. That means our hearts, our minds, our bodies, and our very lives belong to Him.

It is easy to become consumed with the affairs of this world—politics, finances, personal ambitions—but Jesus reminds us that these are secondary to our responsibility to God. We must be mindful not to give so much of ourselves to earthly concerns that we neglect the One who gave us life. Our first and highest calling is to love and serve the Lord with all that we are.

So today, let us take a moment to reflect. Are we truly surrendering to God what is His? Are we living in a way that reflects His image? If not, let us make a renewed commitment to offer Him our lives—not just in words, but in action. Let us give Him our time, our talents, our worship, and our obedience. The world may ask for what is temporary, but God desires what is eternal—our hearts.

May the Lord strengthen your faith and use it for His glory, as you walk humbly in His presence.

Bible Study for Sunday, February 23, 2025 - Trapping Jesus – The Pharisees’ Motives

Scripture: Mark 12:13-15 (NLT)
"Later the leaders sent some Pharisees and supporters of Herod to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested. 'Teacher,' they said, 'we know how honest you are. You are impartial and don’t play favorites. You teach the way of God truthfully. Now tell us—is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay them, or shouldn’t we?' Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and said, 'Why are you trying to trap me?'"

Lesson:
The Pharisees and Herodians, though usually opposed to each other, united against Jesus with a shared goal: to trap Him in His words. Their approach was deceptive, cloaked in false flattery as they called Him an honest teacher who did not show favoritism. Their words, however, were empty, as they sought to manipulate Jesus rather than honor Him. Their question about taxes was a carefully laid snare, designed to force Jesus into a no-win situation—either alienate the Jewish people by supporting Roman taxation or invite Roman punishment by rejecting it. Yet, Jesus saw through their hypocrisy. His ability to discern their true motives reminds us that God is never deceived by appearances; He looks at the heart.

Reflection Questions:
  • Have you ever encountered insincerity in others? How do you respond?
  • How does knowing that Jesus sees beyond appearances challenge your faith?
  • Are there areas in your life where you try to justify wrong motives?
Prayer Focus:
Ask God to give you discernment against hypocrisy and to keep your heart sincere before Him.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Friday, February 21, 2025 - A Love That Transforms

Dear Friends,

The love of Christ is not just an emotion—it is an action. It is sacrificial, transformative, and unrelenting. When Jesus commands us to love our enemies, He is calling us to a love that goes beyond human strength. It is a love that only comes from abiding in Him.

As we close this week reflecting on Matthew 5:43-45, I want to challenge you to embrace this love in every area of your life. Love those who are difficult. Pray for those who oppose you. Show kindness even when it is undeserved. In doing so, you will be a light in this dark world, pointing others to the love of our Savior.

Let us not just be hearers of the Word but doers. Let us love with the love of Christ, and in doing so, fulfill our calling as His disciples.

May the Lord strengthen your faith and use it for His glory, as you walk humbly in His presence.

Evening Prayer for Thursday, February 20, 2025

Yahweh-Rapha, my Healer,

Tonight, I come before You, asking for healing—not just for my body, but for my heart. Loving others as You love is not always easy. Sometimes, wounds from the past make it difficult to let go. But You, Yahweh-Rapha, are the One who restores. Heal the places in my heart that hold onto resentment. Let Your love fill the empty spaces within me so that I may love others without condition. As I rest tonight, let Your Spirit renew and restore me, preparing me for the day ahead.

Daily Devotion for Thursday, February 20, 2025 – Overcoming Evil with Good

Scripture: Romans 12:21 (NLT) – “Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”

Reflection
When faced with opposition, our first instinct is often to retaliate. But Jesus calls us to a different way—to overcome evil with good. When we respond to hatred with love, we break the cycle of sin and open the door for God to work in miraculous ways. Choosing good over evil is not weakness—it is the ultimate display of spiritual strength.

Prayer
Lord, help me to choose good over evil, love over hate, and kindness over revenge. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I may respond to opposition in a way that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Day
The greatest victory over your enemy is choosing love instead of hate.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Thursday, February 20, 2025 - Overcoming Evil with Good

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The world teaches us to fight back when wronged, to return insult for insult, and to stand our ground against those who oppose us. But Jesus teaches us something very different. He tells us in Romans 12:21, “Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”

Loving our enemies does not mean excusing sin or ignoring injustice. It means choosing to respond in a way that honors God. Instead of seeking revenge, we trust in His justice. Instead of speaking words of hatred, we offer words of grace. Instead of repaying evil with evil, we conquer evil with good.

Who in your life do you need to respond to with kindness instead of resentment? Who needs to see the love of Christ in your actions? When we choose to love, we break the cycle of hatred and allow God to work through us. Let us be people who reflect the goodness of God in a world filled with division.

May the Lord strengthen your faith and use it for His glory, as you walk humbly in His presence.

Bible Study for Thursday, February 20, 2025 – Blessing Those Who Persecute Us

Opening Scripture: Luke 6:27-28 (NLT)

Study
Jesus’ command to bless those who curse us and pray for those who mistreat us is one of the most countercultural teachings in Scripture. Blessing our enemies does not mean condoning their actions, but it does mean surrendering our desire for revenge and trusting God’s plan. By doing this, we reflect God’s grace and invite His peace into our lives.

Reflection Questions
  • What does it mean to “bless” someone who wrongs you?
  • How can prayer change your heart toward those who mistreat you?
  • What practical steps can you take to live out this command?
Prayer Focus
Ask God to help you respond with love when you face opposition.

Share Your Thoughts
Write a prayer for someone who has mistreated you.

Morning Prayer for Thursday, February 20, 2025

Heavenly Father, this morning I come to You with an open heart, ready to receive Your wisdom. The path of love is not always easy, but I know it is the path of Christ. Help me to love not only in words but in action. Show me how to extend kindness to those who are difficult, to forgive those who have hurt me, and to pray for those who stand against me. May my heart reflect Your mercy, and may my life bear witness to the transforming power of Your love. Lead me today, Lord, and use me for Your glory. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Wednesday, February 19, 2025

Evening Prayer for Wednesday, February 19, 2025

Adonai, my Lord and Master,

As darkness falls and the day comes to an end, I lift my soul to You. You are patient with me, even when I fail. You call me to love, even when it is difficult. Adonai, teach me to reflect Your kindness, not only to those who are easy to love but to those who challenge me as well. Where my heart is hardened, soften it. Where there is lingering anger, replace it with Your peace. May my thoughts tonight be centered on Your goodness, and may I rise tomorrow ready to serve You faithfully.

In the name of Yeshua, my Shepherd, I pray. Amen.

Daily Devotion for Wednesday, February 19, 2025 – Reflecting Our Heavenly Father

Scripture: Matthew 5:45 (NLT) – “In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For He gives His sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.”

Reflection
God’s love is impartial—He does not reserve His blessings only for those who are righteous. As His children, we are called to reflect that same love, treating all people with kindness, regardless of their actions toward us. Loving our enemies is one of the greatest signs that we belong to Him.

Prayer
Father, I want to be a true child of Yours. Help me to love others with a heart that mirrors Yours. Remove any prejudice or bitterness within me, and fill me with Your perfect love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Day
Your love for others is the evidence of your identity in Christ.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Wednesday, February 19, 2025 - Reflecting the Character of Our Father

Dear Friends,

What does it mean to be a child of God? Jesus gives us the answer in Matthew 5:45—“In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.” When we love our enemies, we reflect the very heart of God. He is not a Father who loves selectively. He loves unconditionally, extending grace even to those who reject Him.

Many people think that being a Christian means following a set of rules, attending church, and reading the Bible. While these things are important, the true mark of a child of God is love—especially love for those who do not deserve it. God does not love us because we are worthy; He loves us because it is His nature to love. And He calls us to do the same.

Are you living as a true child of God? Is your love extending beyond those who are easy to love? I encourage you to let the love of Christ overflow from your heart. When we love as He loves, the world takes notice, and His name is glorified.

May the Lord strengthen your faith and use it for His glory, as you walk humbly in His presence.

Mid-Week Message - Kindess Makes a Difference

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”  Matthew 22:36-40  (ESV)

My daughter's first visit to the dentist occurred when she was eighteen months old.  There weren't any problems but her physician wanted to make sure she was established with a good provider of dental care.  The pediatric dentist that we visited had a nook full of toys that she found very quickly.  She started playing but as she was doing so she was looking around the room at the other patients and their parents.  She began taking toys to everyone in the waiting room.  It was one of the sweetest things I had ever seen.  She didn't stop until each person had a toy.  I remember hoping that she kept that sweet heart for her entire life.  So far, she has.

I can remember in my own childhood how everyone knew their neighbors and were there to help each other if the need arose.  There were neighborhood get-togethers that everyone participated in.  The families knew each other and were comfortable asking for help if it was needed.  One day, as I was playing outside, I heard a car skid to a stop and the lady that was driving began screaming that she "didn't mean to."  What had happened was that a young boy a couple of houses down from ours had run out in the street and had been hit.  My father, who knew CPR, ran to help, as did another neighbor who was a nurse.  This little boy would not have lived had they not gotten there quickly.

As I read the news today, I have to wonder how so much has changed over the years.  Each day brings news of tragedies that are mind-boggling.  School shootings.  A young man killed his mother with a baseball bat.  Human trafficking.  Terrorism. Abortion.  Hate because of differences in political opinion.  Lack of honor and respect.  So many things that we would never have even imagined decades ago.  It seems there is more attention given to which star's marriage is breaking up than to the breakdown of morality.

So what can we do?  How can we bring about positive change?  The answer is that it has to start within ourselves.  We need to determine if we have strayed from God's leading.  Then we need to return to what we know is right.  First, we love Him.  Second, we love others.  It is up to us to set the example.  We need to speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves.  We need to be available for those around us.  Neighbors need to reach out and develop relationships with one another again.  When we encounter those who are hard to love, and we will, then we need to seek the Lord's help and allow Him to love them through us.  Our own fears and inhibitions need to be set aside so that we can spread the Good News and put the needs of others above our own.  This all requires heavenly boldness that will only come when we seek His will above our own and understand how urgently the world needs Jesus.

I realize this won't happen in an instant.  However, we can start small by paying attention to what is going on around us and being empathetic to the hearts that are hurting.  Everyone needs kindness.  They need to be noticed and accepted.  Very small gestures can make huge differences.  By making this our habit we encourage others to do the same and slowly our part of the world can begin to change.

I pray that you are able to see the blessings in your own life so that you can share them to bless others.  I hope you have a week filled with His presence and know that you are loved beyond description.

Jesus summarizes all of God’s law into two commands: love God and love others. This love is not passive; it is active, sacrificial, and unconditional. Loving others includes those who are difficult, those who oppose us, and those who seem unworthy of our love. The more we love God, the more we can love people—even our enemies—because His love flows through us.

Reflection Questions
  • Why do you think loving God and others fulfills all of God’s commands?
  • How can you grow in love for both God and people?
  • Is there someone in your life you struggle to love? How can you show them God’s love?
Prayer Focus
Pray for a deeper love for God and for the ability to love others as He does.

Evening Prayer for Tuesday, February 18, 2025

Yahweh Nissi, my Banner of Victory,

Thank You for carrying me through this day. In every trial, You were with me, reminding me that love is the greatest victory. Though the world may tempt me to seek revenge or harbor resentment, You call me to overcome evil with good. Tonight, I ask for strength to walk in obedience, even when it is difficult. Let my life be a testimony of Your love, even to those who oppose me. As I lay my head down, cover me with Your protection and fill my heart with the assurance of Your presence.

In the name of Yeshua, my Refuge, I pray. Amen.

Daily Devotion for Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – The Power of Forgiveness

Scripture: Colossians 3:13 (NLT) – “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”

Reflection
Forgiveness is not always easy, but it is necessary. When we refuse to forgive, we carry a burden that was never meant for us. Jesus has forgiven us completely, and He calls us to extend that same grace to others. Holding onto past hurts only keeps us in bondage, but forgiveness sets us free.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to let go of any bitterness I am holding in my heart. Teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me. May I walk in the freedom that comes from releasing others into Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Day
Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself—let go and be free.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Tuesday, February 18, 2025 - The Power of Prayer for Our Enemies

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

One of the most difficult commands Jesus gives us is to pray for those who persecute us. When someone wrongs us, our natural reaction is to seek justice or even revenge. But Jesus calls us to something radically different—He calls us to intercede for them.

Why does He command this? Because prayer transforms hearts. It is hard to hate someone when you are praying for them. As we lift our enemies before the Lord, He softens our hearts, reminding us that they too are in need of His grace. Jesus Himself demonstrated this on the cross when He prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). If our Lord could pray for those who crucified Him, how can we not do the same for those who hurt us?

Take a moment today to pray for someone who has wronged you. Ask God to bless them, not for their wrongdoing, but so that they may experience His transforming love. In doing so, you will not only obey Christ’s command but also experience the peace that comes from surrendering all things to God.

May the Lord strengthen your faith and use it for His glory, as you walk humbly in His presence.

Bible Study for Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – Overcoming Evil with Good

Opening Scripture: Romans 12:17-21 (NLT)

Study
Paul instructs believers not to repay evil with evil but to overcome evil with good. This teaching aligns with Jesus’ command to love our enemies. Instead of seeking revenge, we are called to show kindness, even to those who mistreat us. This does not mean we allow injustice to persist, but rather that we trust God’s justice and seek reconciliation whenever possible. A Christ-like response to hatred and evil can soften even the hardest hearts.

Reflection Questions
  • How can responding with kindness change a situation of conflict?
  • What does it mean to “leave room for God’s wrath” (Romans 12:19)?
  • How can you apply this passage in your daily life?
Prayer Focus
Ask God for wisdom to respond to opposition in a way that honors Him.

Morning Prayer for Tuesday, February 18, 2025

Father God, I come before You, seeking Your guidance for this day. The world teaches retaliation, but You command love. Help me, Lord, to choose love over hatred, peace over strife, and forgiveness over resentment. Give me the wisdom to speak words that build up rather than tear down. Let my actions be a reflection of Your grace so that others may see You in me. Guard my heart against bitterness and help me to trust in Your justice rather than seeking my own. Thank You for Your faithfulness, for Your love that knows no bounds. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Evening Prayer for Monday, February 17, 2025

El Elyon, Most High God,

Tonight, I surrender my heart before You. You have shown me mercy beyond measure, and yet, I sometimes struggle to extend that same mercy to others. Forgive me, El Elyon, when I hold onto grudges or fail to love as You command. Fill me with a heart of compassion and humility. As I rest, let Your Word dwell within me, shaping me into the person You desire me to be. Grant me peace in my spirit, knowing that Your justice is perfect, and my burdens are safe in Your care.

In the name of Yeshua, my Redeemer, I pray. Amen.

Daily Devotion for Monday, February 17, 2025 – Praying for Those Who Hurt Us

Scripture: Luke 23:34 (NLT) – “Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.’”

Reflection
Jesus set the ultimate example of love and forgiveness when He prayed for those who crucified Him. If He could forgive in the midst of His suffering, how much more should we extend forgiveness to those who hurt us? Prayer changes our hearts—it replaces bitterness with compassion and resentment with peace.

Prayer
Lord, give me the strength to pray for those who have wronged me. Help me to see them as You do, with eyes of mercy and grace. Transform my heart so that I may reflect Your love in all circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Day
Praying for your enemies does not change them first—it changes you.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse – Monday, February 17, 2025 - A Higher Standard of Love

Dear Beloved in Christ,

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to love those who love you? It comes naturally to return kindness with kindness, but when we encounter those who oppose us, mistreat us, or even seek to harm us, our hearts resist. Yet, Jesus calls us to something greater. He tells us in Matthew 5:43-45, “Love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.”

Loving our enemies is not an option—it is a command. And it is not merely about tolerating them but actively seeking their good, just as God does for us. Our Heavenly Father sends rain to both the just and the unjust, showing no partiality in His grace. As His children, we are called to do the same. This kind of love is not natural to us; it requires the power of the Holy Spirit working in our hearts.

Today, I encourage you to examine your heart. Is there someone you struggle to love? Is there an enemy you refuse to pray for? Take a step of faith—pray for them, and ask God to change your heart. In doing so, you will reflect the true nature of our Father in heaven.

May the Lord strengthen your faith and use it for His glory, as you walk humbly in His presence.
