Mid-Week Message - Kind Words

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer." Psalm 19:14 (ESV)

Here is a little secret about me - I love pretty hairstyles.  Seriously!  I have stopped women in stores to tell them I love their hair.  Some ladies are able to do the most amazing things with braids.  Others have pretty curls or up do's that I can only admire in awe. My own hair does one thing.  I have worn it the same way for more years than I can remember.  When I look for a hairstylist, I look for someone who can duplicate the cut that I have because if they don't I won't have the slightest idea of how to make it look good.  I can remember as a child going with my mother to the beauty shop when she had her hair done.  Back then the popular style was to have it teased and sprayed to the point that it wouldn't move in a hurricane.  I had to draw a picture of my mother once and I drew her with hair that was almost as high as she was tall.  Ah, memories.


I wonder sometimes if people think I am strange for complimenting them on their hair.  I do get some odd looks.  But almost always I also get a smile.  And, at times, I see a very serious expression turn into surprise and then joy when the person realizes that the statement is sincere and that they are in possession of something that someone else appreciates.  I always hope they are able to carry that new expression throughout their day.

In short, whether it is for hair or other reasons, I love to make people smile.  For most of us just a little bit of kindness or encouragement goes a long way.  I was reading some statistics about depression and I discovered that 25 million Americans suffer from some type of major depressive episode each year.  What a staggering number!  I know there is far more involved in remedying depression than a momentary smile but what if that is the only time someone smiles during the day?  You never know what impact a small word of encouragement can make.  

With so many people hurting around us, every word that comes from our mouths should matter.  We may not know someone well enough to speak to their heart but we can always find something positive to say.  Whether it is complimenting them or giving a sincere "God Bless You!", there is always a way to use words to edify those near us.  

Let's make it a priority to show kindness in word and in deed.  Countless strangers cross our paths each day and we can't know what is going on in their lives.  If we can give them the gift of just one smile, that may be pure treasure to them.  Family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and acquaintances need the same.  We can all point to a time when someone unexpectedly made us feel good by something they said or did.  There is far too much negativity in this world.  May you feel treasured this week.  God bless you!

In our conversation, she revealed that she had nearly forgotten her own name, so accustomed was she to being overlooked and ignored. Moved with compassion, I extended a listening ear and a warm meal, igniting a spark of hope within her weary soul. As we dined together, she expressed gratitude not only for the nourishment provided but also for the simple act of acknowledging her humanity. Through this encounter, I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of kindness to restore dignity and instill hope in the hearts of the broken.

As ambassadors of Christ, we are called to embody kindness in all facets of our lives. Whether in our homes, workplaces, or communities, let us be known as vessels of God's love and compassion, extending grace and mercy to all whom we encounter. Let us seize every opportunity to uplift the downtrodden, speak life into the broken, and demonstrate the love of Christ in tangible ways. Remembering God's Faithfulness: Reflecting on His Promises

Resting in God's Promises

Heavenly Father,

As we come before You in prayer today, we are reminded of Your faithfulness and goodness towards Your children. Just as You provided for the needs of the Thompson family, we trust that You will also meet us in our time of need.

Lord, help us to rest in Your promises, knowing that You are always working for our good. Give us hearts that are steadfast and sure, anchored in Your unchanging truth.

Psalm 106:1 (NIV) encourages us, "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." May we echo the psalmist's words of praise and thanksgiving, recognizing God's faithfulness and steadfast love in every season of life.

Walking in Hope

Gracious God,

As we approach the end of another week, we come before You with hearts filled with hope and anticipation. Your Word assures us that our hopes will not be crushed forever, and we take comfort in knowing that You are faithful to fulfill Your promises.

Lord, help us to walk in hope each day, confident in Your unfailing love and provision. May our lives reflect the joy and optimism that come from trusting in You completely.

Fill us with Your peace and presence, guiding us along the path of righteousness and leading us into abundant life. May our hope in You be a light to those around us, drawing them closer to You and Your kingdom.

May this day be filled with renewed hope and expectation of Your goodness and grace.

Finding Strength in Faith

Heavenly Father,

Today, we lift our hearts to You in prayer, seeking strength and courage in the midst of life's challenges. Just as the Thompson family found strength in their faith, we ask that You would grant us the same resilience and perseverance.

Help us to anchor our souls in Your unshakeable truth, knowing that You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. May our faith be a beacon of light in the darkness, shining brightly for all to see.

Lord, when we are weak, You are strong. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, empowering us to overcome every obstacle and to walk in victory.

The Power of Persistence: Persevering in Prayer

One powerful example of persevering in prayer is found in the story of the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8. Despite facing rejection and opposition, she continued to plead her case before the unjust judge until he granted her justice. Jesus uses this parable to encourage us to "always pray and not give up" (Luke 18:1, NIV).

Similarly, James 5:16 (NIV) tells us, "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." As we persistently seek God in prayer, He hears our cries and responds according to His will. Let us not grow weary in praying for His guidance, provision, and intervention in our lives and in the lives of others.

Furthermore, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV) instructs us to "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." May we cultivate a lifestyle of prayer, continually lifting our praises, concerns, and requests to God.

As we reflect on today's study, let us meditate on the following questions:

  2. In what areas of my life do I need to exercise greater faith and perseverance in prayer?

Mid-Week Message - Our Identity in Christ

"But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God."  John 1:12-13 (NLT)


One of the fun memories I have of my daughter when she was little comes from a time that we were a one car family.  When she and I would go to pick her father up from work, we would arrive a bit early and park in front of the building.  As people were coming out she would ask, "Is that my Daddy?" She would ask it about every man that exited then get very excited when she saw her dad.  It was a game.  We had lots of games we played in the car.  I'm sure you did as well.  

As Christians, we never have to ask, "Is that my Daddy?", because we know that our true Father is Almighty God.  Our identity is in Him and was sealed with the blood of Christ.  We are told that we are co-heirs, children of the Most High God, paid for with the most precious possession He had.  We have a home in Heaven where we will spend eternity in praise and worship.  Oh, what a promise!  

As I was thinking about this article, several other things occurred to me as to who we really are.  The scriptures tell us many stories and introduce us to people just like us, through whom we learn about the grace and mercy of our Lord.  So, who are we?  

We are the lepers who were touched by the Savior and healed.  We are the blind who have had our sight restored.  We are the lame who walk because His power is greater than our own.  We are the deaf who hear and respond to the voice of our Shepherd.  We are the wanderers who find our way through and by His direction.  We are the lonely that He has promised never to leave.  We are the grievers to whom He sends His comfort.  We are the poor who find our wealth in innumerable blessings and lay up our treasures in Heaven.  We are the dead who are dead no more but raised up in His likeness.  We are the sinners who are forgiven and adopted as family.  We are the bride who waits expectantly for her groom.  We are the wordless to whom was delivered the Living Word.  We are the orphans who are now members of an eternal family. We are the prodigals whose Father runs to welcome.  We are prisoners whose chains have been removed.  We are the outcast who have been sought out and brought into holy fellowship.  We are the lost who have been found, the frightened who have reassurance and the homeless who have found our forever home.  

I could go on and on.  What I hope that you see is that He is the answer for wherever we find ourselves in life.  Nothing is beyond His power.  You cannot out-love Him nor out-give Him. He is greater than any problem you may encounter.  Hear me.  He is greater than ANY problem you will ever have.  All He asks of us is that we turn to Him and let Him be who He is.  He loves it when His children ask Him to be present in their lives.  His angels rejoice when we accept Him as our Lord. 

Who are we?  We are His.  Created in His likeness and fully loved and accepted.  There is nowhere better to be than in His arms.  He chose to love us.  He chooses each day to give us life.  Our choice is this, what do we do with the life He gives us?  Oh, brothers and sisters, my prayer for each of us is that we learn to rest in the miraculous reality of being His children and that we lovingly share that with those around us.  I look forward to the day that I can look each of you in the face and share a heavenly hug.  God bless.

Trusting in God's Provision

Gracious God,

As we gather in prayer today, we are reminded of Your faithfulness in providing for Your children. Just as You sustained the Thompson family in their time of need, we trust that You will also provide for us abundantly.

Help us, Lord, to trust in Your provision with unwavering faith, knowing that You are our provider and sustainer. Strengthen our hearts to rely on Your promises, even when the world around us may seem uncertain.

May we be mindful of Your blessings and provisions each day, recognizing Your hand at work in our lives. Give us hearts of gratitude and generosity, that we may share Your blessings with those in need.

May Your provision be a testimony to Your goodness and grace, drawing others to You and glorifying Your name.

James 1:6 (NIV) encourages us to have unwavering faith, stating, "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." May we cultivate a faith that is steadfast and sure, trusting in God's faithfulness to fulfill His promises.
