Scripture: Philippians 3:20 (NLT)
"But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior."
"But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior."
Lesson:
While we have obligations to earthly governments, Jesus reminds us that our true citizenship is in heaven. As believers, we are called to live by the values of God’s kingdom, not just the rules of this world. This perspective changes how we interact with money, power, and even authority. It shifts our focus from temporary concerns to eternal truths. When we live as citizens of heaven, our choices, actions, and priorities reflect God’s righteousness rather than worldly ambition. We are reminded that while we must respect the systems in place, our true hope and allegiance rest in Christ, who reigns forever.
Reflection Questions:
- What does it mean to be a citizen of heaven?
- How does this change your perspective on daily life?
- How can you live in a way that reflects your heavenly citizenship?
Ask God to help you focus on His eternal kingdom rather than temporary concerns.
