Opening Scripture:
Romans 3:24 (NLT)
"Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins."
Romans 3:24 (NLT)
"Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins."
Study:
In Romans 3:24, Paul contrasts humanity's sinfulness with God's amazing grace. Despite our inability to meet God's standard, He freely offers us justification—being made right with Him. This justification is not something we can earn; it is a gift that comes from God’s grace. Grace is the unmerited favor of God—something that cannot be deserved or purchased but is freely given to us.
The source of this grace is Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice on the cross made our justification possible. Through His death, Jesus took upon Himself the penalty for our sins, setting us free from the debt we owed. Our justification is grounded in the completed work of Christ, not in our own efforts. As believers, we receive God's righteousness because of Jesus, and it is by His grace alone that we are made right before God.
Reflection Questions:
- How does the concept of grace, as a free gift, change your perspective on salvation?
- In what ways can you respond to God's grace in your daily life?
Thank God for His incredible grace and pray that you will live in a way that reflects gratitude for the salvation He has given you through Jesus.
