Bible Study for Monday, December 2, 2024 – Hope in the Darkness

Opening Scripture
Isaiah 9:1-2 (NIV)
"Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past, he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned."

Study
Isaiah's prophecy was given to a people who were walking in darkness. They faced oppression, hopelessness, and despair. Yet, in the midst of this, the prophet declared a future of light—a great light that would shine upon them and dispel the darkness. This light, of course, refers to the coming of Christ, who would bring the hope and salvation they desperately needed.

In this Advent season, we, too, may feel as though we are walking in darkness. Yet, we are reminded that Christ has come to be the Light of the World. His light pierces through the darkness of our lives, offering hope and salvation.

Reflection Questions
  • How does Christ’s light dispel the darkness in your life?
  • What are some areas where you need God’s light to shine more brightly?
  • How can you reflect Christ’s light to those who are walking in darkness?
Prayer Focus
Pray for Christ’s light to shine in your heart and in your world today. Ask God to reveal areas of darkness in your life where His light can bring healing and hope.
