Yesterday’s message was a heartfelt reminder of the destructive power of spiritual pride within our churches. As Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he was not merely chastising them for the immorality they tolerated but was deeply concerned about their spiritual arrogance. They had become so confident in their spiritual knowledge and status that they turned a blind eye to egregious sin in their midst. This is a sobering reminder to us all.
Spiritual pride can creep in subtly. We might feel spiritually superior because of our knowledge of the Word or our good deeds. Yet, when we allow pride to take root, we lose sight of God's grace, mercy, and holiness. This pride blinds us to our own shortcomings and makes us more willing to tolerate sin in others, just as the Corinthians did.
Let us take Paul's warning seriously. Pride, even spiritual pride, can destroy the fellowship and purity of the body of Christ. We must humbly examine ourselves, repent where necessary, and encourage others to pursue righteousness with grace and humility.
May we continue to walk humbly before the Lord, always vigilant against the temptation of pride.
Yours in Christ,
