As we continue our reflections on Sunday’s message, I want to emphasize the balance between truth and love when addressing sin. In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul calls the church to take a firm stand against immorality. However, the tone in which we confront sin is just as important as the act of confronting it.
Paul wasn’t advocating for harsh judgment, but rather for loving discipline that seeks the sinner’s repentance and restoration. When we confront sin, we must do so with a heart of love, not condemnation. As followers of Christ, we are called to be truth-bearers, but we must always speak that truth in love, as Ephesians 4:15 reminds us.
We’ve all seen the damage caused when sin is ignored in the church. Sadly, I have witnessed churches fall apart due to unchecked sin. People left, the fellowship broke down, and the witness of the church was tarnished. Yet, I have also seen the power of restoration when sin is confronted with love and humility. It is never easy, but it is always necessary.
Let us commit to being a community that lovingly holds each other accountable, never shying away from addressing sin but doing so with the grace that Christ has shown us.
In His love,
Brother Jesse
