Mid-Week Message - After the Disaster

"For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another." 1 John 3:11 (ESV)

The last two weeks I have written about the current disasters that have taken place or are currently taking place.  Florida and other areas have now felt the wrath of Hurricane Irma and face the task of cleaning up and putting their lives back together.  As in Texas, citizens of these areas are pulling together, helping each other as they can.  This is one more reminder that we can never know what tomorrow might bring.  We must use today as if it is our last because surely it just may be.

As we go forward, what can each of us do to be of assistance?  There are many funds that have been set up that can be donated to.  Churches and other organizations throughout the nation are sending trucks of water and other provisions.  Please use wisdom in donating.  There are many sites that give direction on the internet so researching is easy.

Aside from material needs, these folks need abundant prayer.  They need to know that as each of us goes before the Father we carry them with us.  This is a trying time.  The only One that can provide peace is the great I Am.  They also need listening ears.  Most of us have no idea what they are going through.  But we can offer compassion and love.

What they need most is what we all need most.  Jesus.  He holds all power and can do the impossible. He holds hope for a better tomorrow.  His resources are not limited and He is able to bring the right person at the right time to provide whatever is needed.  Ask Him to use you then listen for His prompting.  Whatever He says, be willing to do.  This goes for the victims of all the disasters throughout this nation.  There are so many right now that almost everyone is fairly close to one or the other.

Be grateful for today.  Each day of life is a gift.  We cannot see the future and we have no idea how many days we have left.  I pray for each of you as I write this that you will be blessed and know that you are in the presence of the Lord.  Reach out and share that presence.  God bless you.
