From the Heart of Brother Jesse Friday, August 23, 2024: "Finding Joy in God’s Purpose"

Dear Beloved in Christ,

As we come to the end of this week, I want to share with you a reflection on finding joy in God’s purpose. Jonah’s story is not just one of struggle and surrender, but also of the incredible joy that comes from fulfilling the mission God has given us.

When Jonah finally obeyed God and preached to the people of Nineveh, he witnessed a miraculous transformation. An entire city turned from their ways and sought God’s mercy. There is no greater joy than knowing that you have played a part in God’s plan.

In my own life, I have experienced this joy firsthand. After years of resistance, when I finally embraced God’s call to ministry, I found a sense of fulfillment and happiness that I had never known before. Serving God’s people, whether in a small community like Lakeline Oaks or through our online ministry, has brought me immeasurable joy.

I encourage you to seek out God’s purpose for your life and to pursue it with all your heart. In doing so, you will find a joy that transcends any earthly pleasure—a joy that comes from knowing you are walking in the path God has set before you.

May you be filled with His joy today and always.

In Christ’s joy,

From the Heart of Brother Jesse Thursday, August 22, 2024: "Surrendering to God’s Will"

Dear Friends in Faith,

As we journey together through the story of Jonah, one of the most poignant moments is when Jonah, in the belly of the great fish, finally surrenders to God’s will. It is a moment of profound humility and faith, where Jonah acknowledges that his life is in God’s hands.

In my own life, there came a time when I could no longer resist God’s call. It wasn’t in the belly of a fish, but it was in the quiet surrender of my heart that I finally said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow.” It was a moment of release, where I let go of my fears, my doubts, and my excuses, and simply trusted in God’s plan for me.

Surrendering to God’s will is not always easy. It requires us to set aside our own desires, our own plans, and to trust that God knows what is best for us. But in that surrender, we find true freedom and peace.

Today, I encourage you to reflect on your own journey. Are there areas of your life where you need to surrender to God? I pray that you will find the courage to say, “Yes, Lord,” and trust in His perfect plan for your life.

In faith and trust,

Mid-Week Message - Being an Example

"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."  Ephesians 4:31-32 (NIV)

I am a Starbucks fan.  Yes, I am one of those people that is willing to pay entirely too much for a cup of coffee.  Except, I don't see it that way.  For me, it is a treat.  Something special that I don't have to share with anyone else.  Aside from the coffee though, I enjoy how I am treated there.  Even when they are extremely busy they take the time to talk to me and make me feel special.  I enjoy that.  We all do, don't we?

Being treated kindly is appealing to everyone.  Occasionally, if I can, I will pay the bill for the person in line behind me and ask for the barista to tell them I said, "God bless you."  I'm not trying to impress anyone, just bless someone.  It has been done for me before and I know how surprising and nice it feels.  If I can brighten someone else's day then it is worth the extra amount I pay.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to turn on the evening news and hear about how kind people were to each other rather than the stories of robberies and murders?  Now that is the kind of news I would never turn off.  I find myself shedding tears over the few reports we see of kindnesses paid.  How I wish there were more.

Too many times I have witnessed unthinkable acts being perpetrated by persons in leadership positions.  Their actions were driven by anger, greed or selfishness and they didn't care how many people got hurt or who they were.  The only thing that was important was that their own agenda was advanced. There was no kindness, no compassion, no forgiveness. And the really sad thing is that many of those people confess to believing in Jesus.

I wonder how grieved the Father must be to witness this type of behavior on what is now a regular basis. Too many people allow frustration, worry and negativity toward others to run their lives.  As we drive down the road we see aggressive drivers and hear horns blaring.  Standing in line in the grocery store we hear offensive language as people wait.  Children disrespect their elders because the elders disrespect each other.  Television, movies and other media are filled with hate and violence.  Gone are the innocent days for any of us, including our children.

It is up to those of us that love Jesus and worship Him as our Lord to obey His Word.  We are the ones that need to set the tone.  Loving those around us, practicing kindness, exhibiting compassion and watching our own attitudes and words is where we can begin.  I know how easy it is to fall into the ways of the world.  The question of "What Would Jesus Do" is a good way to redirect ourselves.  We are to be examples of the love that was shown to us.

I pray that this week would be eye-opening for each of us as we notice what is going on around us and what is happening in our own minds and lives.  My heart is full of love for each of you and I pray that everyone can see and hear that in my actions and words.  You matter to me.  God bless you.

Bible Study for Wednesday, August 21, 2024: "The Power of Obedience"

When Jonah finally obeyed God’s command, his preaching led to the repentance of the entire city of Nineveh. In this study, we’ll explore the power of obedience to God and how it can lead to transformative outcomes.

Bible Verses to Read: Jonah 3:1-10; 1 Samuel 15:22; Luke 11:28

Questions to Consider:
  • How did Jonah’s obedience affect the people of Nineveh?
  • What are some examples of how obedience to God has brought about positive change in your life or the lives of others?
  • How can we develop a heart that is eager to obey God, even in the face of uncertainty?
Please share your thoughts and observations in the comment section.

Evening Prayer for Tuesday, August 20, 2024

Dear Father,

As the evening shadows lengthen and the world quiets down, we turn our hearts to You. We thank You for the grace that has carried us through this day, for the ways You have shown us Your love and faithfulness. Just as Jonah discovered Your mercy in the depths of the sea, we are reminded that Your love surrounds us, no matter where we are or what we face.

Lord, as we lay down to sleep, we ask that You would calm our minds and ease our burdens. Help us to release our worries into Your hands, trusting that You will take care of all that concerns us. May our dreams be filled with Your peace, and may we rise in the morning ready to serve You with joy.

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Words from Brother Jesse Tuesday, August 20, 2024: "Partnering in the Gospel"

Dear Friends in Faith,

As I reflect on the story of Jonah and how God used him to reach the people of Nineveh, I am reminded of the importance of partnership in the Gospel. Just as Jonah’s message brought about transformation, our ministry strives to bring the life-changing truth of God’s Word to all who will listen.

This mission is made possible by the partnership we have with you—our faithful supporters. Your prayers and financial contributions enable us to continue offering all of our resources—sermons, Bible studies, prayers, and more—completely free of charge. We believe that the Word of God should be freely accessible to all, and with your help, it is.

I humbly ask that you consider making a donation to support our ministry today. By clicking the "Donate" button on our website, you can help us reach even more people with the message of hope and salvation. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of countless souls.

Thank you for being a partner in this vital work. May God richly bless you for your generosity.

From the Heart of Brother Jesse Tuesday, August 20, 2024: "The Consequences of Disobedience"

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As we continue to meditate on the lessons from the Book of Jonah, I am struck by the profound impact of Jonah’s disobedience—not only on his own life but on those around him. The sailors on the ship with Jonah faced a terrifying storm, all because of Jonah’s choice to flee from God.

This serves as a powerful reminder that our actions, especially when we choose to disobey God, have ripple effects. We may think that our decisions are personal and only affect us, but the truth is that they can bring harm or hardship to others as well.

In my own life, I experienced the consequences of trying to avoid God’s call. It was not just my own peace that was disturbed, but the lives of those around me were also affected by my reluctance. It wasn’t until I turned back to God and embraced His will that I found true harmony—not only within myself but with others as well.

Let us strive to live in obedience to God, knowing that our choices have far-reaching consequences. May we seek His guidance in all we do, trusting that His way is always the best way.
